Narrator Susan Ericksen rises admirably to the challenge of helping to distinguish the many different characters in this mystery. Set in a bleak mid-21st-century New York City, the story draws listeners into a gritty investigation as homicide cop Eve Dallas and her team set out to uncover the truth about an apparent drug overdose. In particular, Ericksen's narration draws on subtle characterization to help listeners keep track of who's speaking in scenes of dialogue. She keeps the pace moving throughout, even the slower parts of the story. There is even a puzzle built into the audiobook, which is something a little different for listeners.
